Rate My Ride Wednesdays Roundup: Iconic VW Minibus Wins Hands Down
Known by many names: Microbus, Minibus, love bus, and even Hippie van, the VW Type 2 or Kombi is an iconic automobile whose popularity spans several generations. In fact, it is the oldest vehicle model still in continuous production. Until last year, that is. Production of the VW T2 in the last factory in the world that continued to make it, ceased in December. The Kombi may be officially dead but its iconic status will definitely live on.
In last week’s Rate My Ride Wednesdays, the enduring appeal of the VW Minibus pushed Westley Kessler’s acid green 1970 VW Bus (currently under restoration) to the top spot with an average rating of 8.9. David Pinet’s 1984 Mercedes-Benz 380SL was at second place with 7.9. Joey Keegan’s big bad truck was not far behind with 7.43.
At fourth place is Andy Esquivel’s 1965 Buick Special with 7.04. Completing our roundup are Kenny Bustard’s fleet (Score: 6.33), Dennis Volkening’s 1994 BMW 530i e34 (Score: 4.8) and Westley Kessler’s spray painted Honda (Score: 3.6)
