The Dodge Demon is Staged for the Second Coming

As mentioned in an earlier post, Chrysler is bent on giving the Demon its second coming. Now, there is more evidence being released online to prepare everyone for the event.

The Dodge Demon first made a mark in the automotive scene during the rise of the muscle cars more than four decades ago. It shared some semblance with its Chrysler contemporaries like the Barracuda, Dart, Valiant, and Duster. This was particularly evident in their bodies and engine options like the 340 Wedge, 426 Hemi, and 440 Six Pack.

The moniker resonated like a threat both on the street and the strip. It was a time when 425 horses and 490 lb-ft of torque was enough to make you grin through the entire quarter mile. Even on the street, the throaty rumble it produced during idle and low rpms was already a treat. But as the ‘70s progressed, these mean V8 machines faded away from the spotlight in favor of more economical alternatives.

After decades of being covered in ashes, the Demon’s second coming is blazing sooner than expected. The model is set to be a Dodge Challenger package engineered to perform a notch above the supercharged Hellcat. It is known that the blown Hellcat 6.2-liter V8 already packs 707 horses and 650 lb-ft of torque, so expect there could be more with the Demon. This monster is slowly being teased to the public with short video clips being uploaded each week. Dodge will ultimately unveil the ride just before this year’s New York International Auto Show.

Despite potentially besting both the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and the Shelby Mustang GT350 straight up on the quarter mile, it would also be nice to let the Demon out on the Nürburgring. Back in October 2016, the 2017 Camaro ZL1 clocked in 7:29.60 on the famous track (11.67 seconds quicker than its previous record). This performance pony car has a 6.2-liter supercharged LT4 V8 that cranks out 650 horses and 650 lb-ft of torque. The supercharged Shelby Mustang GT500 is still under wraps with rumors of it packing 662 horses and 631 lb-ft of torque under the hood.

On the other hand, Vin Diesel might have accidently leaked two Demons online while giving a speech to the crew behind the latest movie in the Fast and the Furious franchise. It has not yet been confirmed if the white Challengers are those set to wear the Demon badge but the hood, splitter, and wide stance should already make you think. Don’t worry, it won’t be too long before the Demon’s fury is unleashed.

While you may argue that the Demon could be the fastest muscle car out of the production line, all the power and weight could turn out to be a handful once it runs on the track. So until then, we have to sit back and anticipate!
