2019 Toyota Supra – The Comeback Kid?
Looks like the Toyota Supra is geared to play with the big boys any time soon. Thanks to the fan site www.supramkv.com, there are new leads on the fabled car’s imminent reincarnation. Just last Friday (June 3, 2016), Toyota has filed a patent for the trademark ‘Supra’ in the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). This governing body is responsible for all the trademarks used within the European Union.
Back in February 2014, a similar patent has already been filed by Toyota at the US Patent and Trademark Office. The moves should secure the nameplate as the phoenix would rise above the ashes again.
It has been known that a sports car is being developed by Toyota and BMW for quite some time now. The Japanese automaker already previewed a concept sports coupe dubbed the Toyota FT-1. Rumor has it that this model could possibly be the one to take on the nameplate. Alongside with the Supra, partner BMW might also release its own version that could be called the Z5. There is a possibility that the partnership between the two marques would yield a coupe and convertible version of the model.
Some spy shots roaming online features a roadster wrapped in graphics bearing styling hints of BMW (note: kidney grille). The automotive community has yet to confirm if this car is also part of the project.
If we are to connect the dots and make further speculations, the new Toyota Supra might possibly end up making an appearance in the next Fast and the Furious movie. The 9th installment of the franchise is slated for an April 2019 release, about the same time Toyota and BMW eyes to release their joint project to the market.
And so the plot thickens.
