Would You Buy a $60,000 Ferrari?

By on February 11, 2016

Ferrari’s supercars are prestigious enough that it can sell for nearly half a million dollars today and no one will bat an eyelash. So when a classic Ferrari GT goes on sale for one-fifteenth of that cost, it seems too good to be true right?

Well, provided the Ferrari has a terrible paint job, ugly yellow rims, and missing a few random parts, the deal is quite real.

A 1974 Ferrari 365 GT4 2+2, part of Ferrari’s Tipo F101 line which also includes the Ferrari 400 and the 412, is on sale for just $59,500 at Gullwing Motor Cars, a New York-based auto dealer specializing in antique and exotic vehicles. The tourer’s 340bhp V12 engine and distinct six side-draft Weber carburetors are still in good shape, but it is missing several components including those in the interior trim, the fuel door, and the smoker window glass. The car’s bland gray primer coat isn’t winning awards either.

But with the key parts still in good shape and at a price tag that’s roughly equal to a BMW sedan (or the world’s fanciest ice cream sundae), it’s still a reasonable trade. Especially if you can tell the folks at the cafeteria that you drove an honest-to-goodness Ferrari on the way to work.
