How Do You Feel About EPA Hating on Your Race Car?
There has been a buzz happening online about the proposal made by the United States Environmental Protection Agency against road vehicles being modified for different racing applications. If this breaks through, it could possibly mean the end of enthusiasts being able to put on performance upgrades to their beloved rides.
It is quite clear that the agency wants to draw a line between beefed up street machines and certified race cars. Under the proposed rule, any aftermarket product that alters the emission settings of a factory-spec vehicle will be outlawed. This will include parts like carburetors, headers, exhaust pipes, performance chips and many more. The program is meant to take part in reducing the carbon trail left by vehicles all around the States. In itself, the effort is truly for a noble cause. However, the movement will definitely hit the automotive hobby and community. In USA alone, there are a lot of enthusiasts relying on the production of aftermarket parts to make their vehicles run faster and better.
The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) is currently in talks with EPA regarding the issue. Let us know what you feel about this!
