Six Vehicles that Have Traveled a Million Miles

By on November 23, 2016

A vehicle that reaches the 100,000 or 200,000 mile mark deserves a victory dance. It’s quite common for drivers to trade their car for a newer ride once it reaches this impressive mileage. But did you know that there are actually a handful of gearheads who are so committed to a single vehicle that they managed to rack up a million miles on its odometer while still managing to keep it in good shape? Here are just some of those awesome rides that managed to travel a million miles or more:

1. 1966 Volvo P1800

This 1966 Volvo P1800 is owned by Ivy Gordon since 1966. It reached its first million miles back in 1987, and then it crossed the 2 million-mile mark in 2002. Volvo even recognized these achievements by giving Gordon a new 780 Bertone Coupe and C70, but the true-blooded carguy still continued to keep his 1966 Volvo P1800 running up till now. He was even awarded a Guinness World Record for the highest vehicle mileage when this car passed the 3 million-mile mark in 2013.

2. 1989 Saab SPG

Owned by Peter Gilbert, this 1989 Saab SPG ticked off 1 million miles on its odometer after 17 years on the road. It still has its original engine and turbocharger, but its wheels, cylinder head gaskets, and transmission have been overhauled over the past years. The vehicle now resides in the Wisconsin Automotive Museum where it was donated right after it reached a million miles back in 2006.

4. Lincoln Town Car

This Lincoln Town Car is owned by Chet Belisle, and has now travelled a total of 1.3 million miles. The secret? Automotive parts that are backed by a lifetime warranty! Its V8 engine and transmission have also been rebuilt to ensure that it consistently provides a smooth performance. In fact, Belisle claims that this car has never broken down ever since he owned it.

5. 1990 Honda Accord

Time and again, the Honda Accord has proven that it’s one of the most durable vehicles in the automotive world. In fact, it’s so resilient that one man named Joe LoCicero even managed to travel a million miles with his Accord! LoCicero made it a point to observe the recommended maintenance schedule of this vehicle in order to keep it in good condition. Its interiors have also undergone a number of face-lifts over the past years.

6. Mercedes 240D

Owned by Paul Harman since 1983, this Mercedes 240D has crossed the million-mile mark back in 2008. Harman says that the secret behind this astounding mileage is an oil change every 3000 miles. To recognize this achievement, Mercedes gave Harman grille badges to mark the distance that this car has traveled.
