RECALL ALERT!

Another automaker has announced a recall on one of their models. This time, it’s Porsche recalling 243 2017 Macan built between July 30th and August 9th, and is not limited to a particular model variant!

What happens when a car oversteers and why is it considered a road safety hazard? When a car oversteers, the anti-roll bar connecting links may move out of position, allowing the vehicle to oversteer in certain driving condition – which could lead to loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash.

After a month since discovery, the car manufacturer submitted a report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Information (NHTSA) describing the problem as:

“There is the possibility that the front anti-roll bar of the affected vehicles were fitted with connecting links from a defective batch on which the connecting link bushings can move out of the connecting link eyes. This can cause rattling noises and can subsequently cause the anti-roll bar to stop functioning during extreme driving maneuvers. If this happens, the sporty handling as designed into the Macan may be impaired, resulting in oversteering of the vehicle.

At the moment, there are zero reported cases of failed anti-roll bar-induced oversteer occurring in the said models. Porsche will soon notify customers of the issue, encouraging them to bring their cars to dealers for inspection. If found to have a defective anti-roll bar, it will be replaced for free.
