Here’s What Happens When You Try to Steal a Rolls-Royce Hood Ornament
One of the downsides of owning a luxury car is that some prankster may run off with your ride’s hood ornament. But that isn’t a problem with Rolls-Royce, which implemented a rather complex anti-theft system for its signature hood emblem, the century-old “The Spirit of Ecstasy“, to discourage would-be thieves.
Check the video below to see it in action.
This feature, said to be found on all Rolls-Royce vehicles made since 2004, may seem a tad excessive, but it is par for the course for this prestigious luxury brand. Rolls-Royce cars are filled to the brim with extravagant features, including monogrammed umbrellas hidden on the sides of the door, genuine wood inlays, and upholstery that’s made of of premium hand-picked leather.
What’s more, unlike other hood ornaments, the Spirit of Ecstasy is still made entirely of stainless steel – in some cases even coated with 24-carat gold plating – so there is merit in keeping this iconic part of the car safe and secure.
So if you’ve ever wondered why you don’t see anyone wearing a Rolls-Royce hood ornament around their necks, you can thank its very own security system for that.
