The King was known to be an avid car collector and enjoyed owning a handful of ridese. During different points in his life, the Graceland garage had a ’55 Cadillac Fleetwood dubbed as the Pink Cadillac, a ’56 Cadillac Eldorado painted in deep purple, a ’62 Ford T-Bird, a bunch of Rolls-Royce, a Mr. Slim, a ’75 Ferrari Dino, and a whole lot more. But the 507 is reminiscent of Elvis’ youthful enthusiasm with fast cars.

Verifying the provenance of this certain BMW 507 required the involvement of the BMW Group Classic Archives and American automotive journalist Jackie Jouret. Their research revealed that the car was originally used by racing driver Hans Stuck during various hillclimb championships in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. As what you would expect from a racecar, the engine enjoyed upgrades.

When Stuck’s 507 was put on sale in a Frankfurt dealership, the 23-year-old Elvis Presley chanced upon it. He took the car for a spin and was immediately sold on its performance.

Originally painted in white, Elvis decided to coat it with red to put an end to fans writing messages on the car using their lipsticks.

In 1960, Elvis ended his military service and returned to United States, taking along with him the now red 507.

It only took a few months before the King sold the car in New York. From that point until its recent restoration, the car went through different owners and was modified to suit their preferences.

In a few more days, the public will be seeing the car the way Elvis Aaron Presley first set his eyes on it.
