5 Driving Songs: Step by Step Guide For a Broken Heart

By on April 13, 2016

Some people may feel this is a cheesy topic but it nevertheless is an important one. Have you ever had your heart broken? Sometimes when we feel this way, we just want to get away! Going for a road trip can be a sweet escape from this sad and awful reality. Singing your heart out while driving alone could make you feel tons better! Hop in with us and turn on the music player in your car and let’s start mending that broken heart!

  1. Baby Can I Hold You – By Tracy Chapman
  • Knowing the situation you’re in

This song is actually really nice to sing along to. By sound of the intro and the chill strumming of the guitar with a little bit of slow drums just to add a little bit of tempo to this sad but not so drowning song, you can tell that it’s really made for us to feel it. The tone of the song isn’t that hard to reach and the Tracy Chapman’s voice is just perfect.

“Sorry is all that you can’t say / Forgive me is all that you can’t say /I love you is all that you can’t say / Years gone by and still words don’t come easily / Like I love you I love you / But you can say baby can I hold you tonight / Maybe if I told you the right words at the right time you’ll be mine.”

This song tells us that we tend to forgive and forget easily even if our significant other hurts us without even being sorry about it. We stay with this person even if there’s no assurance that they actually love us. But we can’t always wait for the “right time” and the “right words.” We don’t want to end up in a guessing game right?

  1. Wild World – By Mr. Big
  • Acceptance and letting go

Who doesn’t know this song right? This may not seem like a sad song because of the rock star vibe to it but this is actually about letting go of this girl he loved. The singer is actually telling the girl that it really hurts him but he won’t stop her for leaving and trying something new. We all know that letting go is actually the hardest part. We let go because we love them and we want them to be happy. Imagine singing this song while driving along the country side and singing your lungs out to the chorus!

Ooooh baby baby it’s a wild world / it’s hard to get by just upon a smile / and I’ll always remember you like a child girl.

  1. Emotions – By Destiny’s Child
  • Feel everything. Embrace the pain and sadness. Cry if you need to cry.

This  song is for when you’re feeling the aftermath of letting go. Sing this song while driving around at night in a quiet city/town. This is perfect if you just want to be alone and feel the moment. There’s nothing wrong with being emotional once in a while! The first line of the song might actually get you teary-eyed right away: “It’s over and done.”

“Where are you now? Now that I need you…”

  1. All Behind us Now – By Patti Austin
  • Learning to live without each other. Putting the past behind.

This is actually a feel good song. The beat is a little fast and the combination of the different instruments is actually very soothing to the ear. You may find yourself just nodding and swaying your head while singing this. Perfect when you are driving during the day if you plan on going to the beach to treat yourself and relax.

“We pretended for so many years / But now it’s over baby and so are my tears”

  1. I Will Survive- Cake
  • After going through all the pain, you’re pretty positive that you’ll be fine and you’ll survive the heartbreak.

We chose this version because this is pretty chill to sing or to listen to in the car. The beat and the guitar playing all throughout the song will give you this awesome feeling while driving. It’s relaxing and mellow but at the same time you’ll feel the rock and roll vibe. The guitar solo towards the end is just amazing, you might go to places if you play this song on repeat. Imagine driving while the sun is setting, you see how beautiful it is, you’re thankful, you’re starting to love life again, and you just think to yourself. “I have survived and I’m done with all the heartaches. I think I’m ready to fall in love again!”

This song will definitely bring back your self confidence and will give you the positivity you need. This song actually proves the saying “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”

“I will survive! As Long as I know how to love,  I know I’ll be alive
I’ve got all my life to live, I’ve got all my love to give
I will survive!”

Driving around places may be a good therapy for those who want to get away and to have alone time. Remember to still be focused while driving! Heartbreak doesn’t excuse recklessness.
