The Chevrolet Bel Air models that spanned from 1955 to 1957 have been some of the most memorable model runs by the Bow Tie Inc. Before the full-blown muscle cars took the center stage, these machines made of steel, rubber and chrome were the headlines in the automotive circles across towns.  Hot-rodders got playful with their Bel Airs and put in different kinds of modifications. These went from modest suspension and engine upgrades all the way to big block transplants. Up to this day, this practice continues on. Here are some of the coolest Tri-Five builds we found so far.

Glenn Hunter’s 1956

Glenn Hunter’s cherry red ’56 Bel Air means a whole lot of business. This Yankee car combines aesthetic appeal and dragster performance. It’s now equipped with a 555 ci stroker big block. This mean Bel Air is both a race car and a road car having clocked over 2,000 miles on its odometer already.

Blacktop Candy’s 1955

The builders of this neat Bel Air played with an eye-catching two-tone paint to match an era-correct restomod. At a quick glance, it’s almost a 100% purist restoration if not for the converted floor shifter and chromed exhaust pipes.

Eric Martin’s 1955

This modern restomod is as neat as it gets. It packs power under the hood with a Chevy 350 transmitted to a TH400 3-speed automatic. It has a mean staggered stance but a 9-inch Ford rear end is a deal breaker for Chevy fans.

Subtle but classy 1957

Chromed panels, satin gray paint, baby moon hub caps, rubber with yellow lines. It’s all good for this ’57 Bel Air. While it’s not as flashy as its show car counterparts, it has this daily driver feel to it. Why not? The car has Edelbrock parts on its block and a TH350 automatic.
