MGP Caliper Covers Install

By on August 6, 2015

Project:  MGP Caliper Covers Install
Vehicle: 2012 Ford F-150 XLT
Installer: JC Whitney Staff
Level of Difficulty: Very Easy

Here’s another fun Saturday morning project that will give your truck a style upgrade with minimal effort. The folks at MGP created the caliper cover market with their well-designed and precisely manufactured products in a variety of colors and applications. The team at MGP has also forged relationships with car manufacturers for the rights to add official logos to the caliper cover of your choice.

Stock calipers, especially the sliding style caliper installed on most vehicles these days aren’t very attractive and after a few years on the road they look nasty, even here in California. Add road salt, brake dust and weather and the picture gets ugly. It won’t matter how much or how often you clean your wheels, grungy calipers will drag down the look of your ride. MGP caliper covers will transform the look of your vehicle in about an hour. MGP produces their caliper covers out of aircraft grade aluminum and powder coats them in virtually any color imaginable. For our Ford F-150 we chose their most popular red color with contrasting Ford oval logo.

As you open the box and look at the MGP caliper covers it’s clear that MGP dedicates a lot of effort to production and packaging. Our caliper covers arrived in perfect condition ready to install with all of the hardware for the job included.

The MGP install couldn’t have been much easier; their provided instructions are clear and concise. With all of the components laid out we were ready to start by jacking up the passenger side front corner and removing the wheel. By sliding two precision stainless steel clips into the caliper you create an anchor point for the caliper cover. The next step is to locate the studs on the tabs of the caliper cover and tighten the two nuts securing the caliper cover to the tabs. Drilling or modification of the caliper is not required and the install is completely reversible at any time. MGP includes a paper “gauge” to confirm clearances.

Here is the before and after, you can see how much better the caliper looks after the cover is installed.

With the wheel reinstalled and torqued to Ford specs the effect of the MGP caliper cover is subtle and looks great with our stock wheel. You can imagine the effect with aftermarket wheels that how the caliper covers would enhance the look of your brake caliper and rotor. As an added benefit the MGP caliper covers will protect your wheels from brake dust meaning that your wheel cleaning chores will be quicker and easier.

We installed all four of the MGP caliper covers in just under an hour; the fit was perfect and the effect was exactly what we were seeking-a classy upgrade with minimal time, effort and investment.
