Some of the Most Unique Alibis Used by Drivers to Get Out of a Speeding Ticket

By on January 29, 2015

When you’re late for a meeting at work, the last thing you need is a policeman flagging you down for a traffic violation. But, well, we’ve all been there at one point–speeding absentmindedly on the highway (or even just cruising happily along the road) when a policeman suddenly appears out of nowhere with a ticket ready to slap to our face.

Aw officer, I didn’t know this is a 60km/hr zone!

But… But… I didn’t see that sign back there, sir!

You’ve heard those excuses, or you may have even used them at some point. But, we’re almost sure there are alibis used by drivers to try and get out of a ticket that you haven’t heard before. We have compiled some.

Speedometers are simple to read, right? Well, not if you have dyslexia according to a 40-year old driver who was caught doing a 103mph in a 60mph zone. The man argued that he could not understand his speedometer because he was dyslexic.

The verdict? Charged guilty of speeding and banned from driving for three years.

AOL user Ryan00civic attests to the effectiveness of this next excuse to get out of a speeding ticket–that he is in a hurry to a store to get a candy bar. And to convince the officer that he’s telling the truth? He has a card that states he is diabetic.

Pretty clever, huh? Just don’t get karma catch up with you. :p

Speeding appears to be one of the most common reasons drivers are issued a ticket. And while reasons such as getting late to work, to a meeting, to school, to a party, or to wherever is a common excus, some alibis deserve credit for being creative, even if unbelievable.

Such as the excuse of a French mayor who was caught doing double the legal speed limit. His reason? He just came from the car wash and was trying to dry his car. Nice try, Sir!

Another driver blamed the fly that got inside his car for his speeding, claiming that he was trying to get the fly out by opening his windows and driving fast.

… Yeah, because that’s the best way to get rid of flies.

This other story is about a grasshopper who was blamed for a driver’s speeding. The driver said they wanted to know how fast they could go before the insect blew off.

Well, guess they didn’t go fast enough–the grasshopper was still on the windshield when they got caught.

Have you ever been caught speeding because you were trying to beat the closing of the breakfast menu in your favorite McDonald’s branch? Well, this one guy has! Not sure if he managed to convince the police to let him off, but we only have this to say: never mess with a hungry man!

Who would have thought a melting ice cream could save you from a ticket? One grandma used exactly that excuse for her speeding, saying she had ice cream in the car and did not want it to melt. Aww, grandma!
